Alperen Eken (Chairperson)

Alperen Eken completed his Political Science and International Relations degree at Boğaziçi University. During his studies, he wrote numerous articles for Dinamik Newspaper and Boğaziçi Magazine for two years. He completed a long term internship at the American Chamber of Commerce in Turkey, during which he prepared several surveys and reports about the business environment in Turkey. He was one of the organizing members of the panels “Roadmap of Entrepreneurship in Turkey” and “IPR and Investment Environment in Turkey.” He completed a one-year internship at the Public Affairs and Government Affairs at the Dow Chemical Company, and he worked a year as a Compliance Analyst at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) between September 2016 and August 2017. Since February 2018, he has been working as a Process Engineer at QNB Finansbank. He has been in the Co-Opinion Team since June 2015. He speaks Turkish, English and German.

Samed Şahin (Secretary-General)

Samed Şahin completed his undergraduate program in Department of Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University and continues his academic career as a master degree student in the same department. He spent one semester at Universität Salzburg as a research assistant and participated in an ongoing research about a computational analysis of trade agreements. During this semester, he also published an article in the magazine of Austrian Student’s Union. In March 2018, he attended to the European Students Conference at Yale University as a workshop participant and presented a policy paper on the topic of European renewable energy. At CESD Graduate Student Conference at Kadir Has University, he presented a paper that elaborates the Turkish policy framework regarding the energy transition management. Currently, he works as a project assistant on authoritarian reactions to relief aid, in Boğaziçi University. For two years, he has worked as a program associate in Co-Opinion Department of Academic Affairs. He speaks English, French and Persian.

Gizem Ergün (Coordinator-General)

Gizem Ergün graduated from Robert College in 2015. She is currently pursuing her bachelor degree in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University. She was an editor in Robert College’s newspaper Bosphorus Chronicle. She also wrote articles for Dinamik Newspaper. She completed an internship in Bahçeşehir University School of Government and Leadership. During her internship in BAU, she has prepared regional reports on current political issues and participated in conferences which concerned political and diplomatic relations. She completed an internship in Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK), in DEIK she was an intern in Turkish American Business Council. She also worked in the department of Business Advisory Team in British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey (BCCT). She speaks English and French.

Murat Akdoğan

Murat Akdoğan completed his high school education in Kuleli Military High School in 2011 and had his bachelor’s degree from Political Science and International Relations (IR) Department of Boğaziçi University in 2017. He passed a semester at Sciences Po Paris in 2016 as a part of Erasmus program. Murat started his master’s degree in Political Science and IR Department of Boğaziçi University in 2017, and currently he is studying on his thesis about the financing of construction sector in Turkey. His area of interest includes political economy of development, international political economy and financialization of the world economy. Murat also did an internship in 2017 and 2018 in Istanbul Economics Research which performs as a corporate advisory and public affairs consultancy platform. Presently, Murat is a research assistant in the Political Science and IR Department of BoğaziçiUniversity, and he is planning do a PhD on global political economy in the upcoming years. Murat speaks English (fluent) and French (basic).

Fatma Betül Efendi

Fatma Betül Efendi is a junior in Boğaziçi Üniversitesi, Political Science & IR department. She took an active role in Center of European Studies Student Forum as Secretary General. During her undergraduate programme, she anticipated many volunteer works focusing more particularly on children. She speaks English and German.

Elif Yararbaş

Elif Yararbaş is a 3rd year Political Science and International Relations student at Boğaziçi University. She works part-time in her faculty as a student assistant. Last summer, she completed internships at Foreign Policy Institute and Research Center on Asylum and Migration, on which she worked for the Malala Project. She speaks English and French.

Hatice Nur İçen

Hatice Nur İçen is currently pursuing her bachelor degree in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University. She attained number of seminars about her interested issues at many kind of NGOs in İstanbul. She completed an internship at the Security Affairs of Prime Ministry which is an official institution at Ankara. She is interested in Classical Turkish Music and plays violin. She speaks English and studies French and Persian.

Bekir Uğur Yıldırım

Bekir Uğur Yıldırım graduated from Istanbul Erkek High School in 2016. He is currently studying Political Science and International Relations as Bachelor’s Degree at Boğaziçi University. He was the chairperson of International Golden Bull Short Film Festival in 2015. He also participated in various civil society initiatives like free tutoring for children in need and book donation campaign for a school located in a rural region of Turkey. He speaks English and German.

Mehmet Hakkı Uysal

Mehmet Hakkı Uysal graduated from Çanakkale Fen Lisesi in 2014. He is currently pursuing his bachelor degree in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University, İstanbul. He is an organizational team member of the Alumni Association of his high school. He speaks English and French fluently.

Tuğçe Kırmacı

Tuğçe Kırmacı is a Boğaziçi University student in her senior year, in the department of Political Science and International Relations. Formerly, she worked as a researcher and intern in Transparency International, participating in the writing of the report on Turkey’s shift to Cumhurbaşkanlığı system, aiming to assess the current state of the shift, the aims for the shift, and its possible prospects. She also worked as an intern in İstanbul Policy Center and assisted the research project of ‘’Multi-Scalar Labor Governance in EU- Turkey Garment Value Chains: Challenges and Potentials for Workplace integration of Refugees’’. Currently, she is an undergraduate assistant in Boğaziçi University, working with Assist. Prof. Mert Arslanalp.


Tsisem Molla Amet

Tsisem Molla Amet Ali is a senior Political Science and International Relations student at Boğaziçi University. She participated in many volunteer work in several NGOs in Turkey as conducting art-based interactive workshops with the disadvantaged groups’ children. Focusing on the Expressive Arts approach in the area of conflict transformation in communities and non-formal educational settings. She speaks English, Greek and French (basic).

Zilan Berfim Türkoğlu

Zilan Berfim Türkoğlu is studying Political Science and International Relations in Boğaziçi University. She currently works in Cambly Inc. as contractor and takes part in the digital marketing department. She gained experience in e-marketing in a startup company named Alldaywifi. She is a member of Cinema Club of Boğaziçi University and interested in film analysis and film theory. She also worked temporarily in the Istanbul Foundation For Culture and Arts (IKSV) as an attendant of film festivals. She speaks English and she is learning French.


Aleyna Büyükşalvarcı

Aleyna Büyükşalvarcı graduated from Notre Dame de Sion French High School in 2017. She is currently pursuing her bachelor degree in Philosophy at Boğaziçi University. She was a jury member of Prix Littéraire NDS des Lycéens in 2016. She participated in many MUN conferences in Turkey and in France, focusing mainly on topics concerning legal and environmental issues in Eurasia region. During her undergraduate programme, she was an organisational team member of many events. She fluently speaks French and English.

Semuhi Sinanoğlu (Founding President)

Semuhi Sinanoğlu pursued his double major program in Political Science & International Relations and Economics at Bogazici University, Istanbul. He spent one semester at Columbia University, NY as part of an exchange program. He completed his MA in International Relations at Koc University, Istanbul with his thesis titled “Varieties of Capitalism in the Middle East & North Africa: A Comparative Perspective”. He also completed an executive education program in leadership at Harvard University Kennedy School with scholarship. For one year, he served as the vice-president of the Association of International Relations Studies for Turkey (IRST) and as a social policy analyst for two years at Development Analytics, a London & Istanbul-based research company. He was also a researcher at Al-Haq, one of the first human rights organizations based in Palestine. He is a young scholar of Global Relations Forum, associate of Al Sharq Youth Forum, fellow of the Ashoka Foundation’s Changemaker Program and Open Society Foundation’s Human Rights & Governance Program. As of August 2017, he is based at McGill University, Canada as a Jeanne Sauvé Foundation fellow. The Turkish Educational Foundation granted him “Outstanding Success Scholarship” in 2009. He has been the editor of several magazines published in Turkey. He speaks English, German, and Arabic.


Burak Çelik (Previous Chairperson)

Burak Çelik completed his undergraduate program at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Law. He participated in several moot court competitions and got a degree at the 37th Telders International Moot Court Competition’s oral rounds while representing Turkey. He also attended numerous conferences as a speaker, including the Turkish/German/Japan Colloquium on Comparative Law. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of International Law Society of Istanbul University. He is now licensed to practice law as an attorney and he is pursuing his MA in Private Law at the Turkish-German University. He speaks English and German fluently.
