Co-Opinion has held its 3rd Annual Youth Summit at MEF University, Istanbul between 22nd and 23rd of June 2018 with participants from all over the world. The theme of the organization has been labeled as Reskilling the Youth. With the valuable contributions of the participants, three basic topics have been discussed in three different workshops under the guidance of professionals and academics: Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Education, Inclusiveness.
Prof. Dr. Muhammed Sahin, Rector of MEF University and Dr. Omer Aras, Chairman of QNB Finansbank delivered keynote speeches on 22nd of June 2018. Both of the speakers have focused on the incoming impact of Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Revolution. Giving speech to a group of young audience, Sahin and Aras stressed the significance of opportunities and challenges for the youth with regards to unprecedented changes in technology and industry.
Next, the Annual Summit continued with Panel: Reskilling a Generation gatheringacademics and professionals from distinct disciplines and backgrounds. Our expert team included Prof. Dr Erhan Erkut, Vice President of MEF University, Bengi Korkmaz -from McKinsey & Company, Didem Altop, Co-founder of Endeavor Turkey, Ferruh Gürtaş – from Intel, and Zeynep Dereli -Founder and CEO of Tink. Panelists debated over the topics of AI Revolution and the novelties of the new industrial era, and they drew attention to implications for the future generations in the session. The day has ended with Workshop I that was moderated by Erhan Arslan -from Turkish Policy Quarterly, Prof. Dr. Aysıt Tansel -from METU and Dr. Emine Deniz -from NYU. The topics of the workshop were Industry 4.0: Opportunities and Challenges; Skills Mismatch and Educational Reform; and Tackling the Gender Disparity in Employment.
The second day of the summit began with Networking Session guided by the academic team of Co-Opinion. Then, we moved to Workshop II and Workshop III to discuss the topics of entrepreneurship & innovation, education policies and inclusiveness. Workshop II was moderated by Elif Celik -from ITU Ginova, Elif Duskun -from Educational Reform Initivative and Ieva Keskine -from UNDP Istanbul. The subjects of the session were selected as The Role of Universities in Entrepreneurship & Innovation; Best Practices in Education; and Empowering Disadvantaged Communities: Labor Market Integration of Refugees. After that, Workshop III was held under the moderation of Baran Korkut -Chief Producer of Workinlot, Ensari Koçak -from Mathematical AI and Semuhi Sinanoğlu -from Jeanne Sauve Foundation. The topics of the workshop were defined as Empowering Youth Through Entrepreneurship; New Methods in Education; and Tackling Ethnic & Sectarian Discrimination in Hiring Processes.
After the workshops, we held Evaluation Session with the assessments of the Co-Opinion team. In the final part, we had Certification Ceremony & Closing and participants received their certificates for their attendance and participation to the 3rd Annual Summit in Istanbul.
